I was just looking at your list yesterday before you changed some stuff; it looks even better now. I really like the list, i love most of these. It seems personal and somehow the films fit together very well.

I wanna see: Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown, Minnie & Moskowitz, The Bitter Tears of Petra Von Kant, Yi Yi, Vivre sa vie, Code Unknown and some more. I should catch up on french films, especially Godard, Truffaut, Resnais etc.

As usual beautiful list, so many wonderful recommendations as well as some favourites. Happy to see the Red Shoes up there, I wasn't aware you loved Lubitsch enough to have at least two of his films on your list. ! YAY!

Thanks! Yeah, Lubitsch really took hold during the second half of last year; right now I'm considering him about my 7th favorite director. I've seen 13 or so films from him, most great, none less than good (yet ;)).

You have zero films from the 20s--I thought you were going to work on that?

I never watch what I say I'm gonna...

But My Best Girl really deserves a spot, and Harold Lloyd is still hot.

I'll watch some 20s films sometime... truthfully they hold little interest for me at the moment.

Curiously, I suspect they will never hold interest for you.

No, unless my focus changes, I don't expect they will; I care too much for "narrative cinema" and "actors."

ah bette spaghetti. unfortunately deception is a movie that I saw on TCM when I saw a bunch of bette movies on tcm after getting cable for the first time. this was right before I started keeping track of what I was watching, and I have noooo idea if i saw the whole thing. It's pretty inferior but i would watch anything that Bette Davis is in. I just don't know how much i saw of it and confuse it with the other kinda obscure bette davises floating around on TCM. insane!!

Happiness is the TCM print of Love Affair finally making it to KG. Those DVDs are godawful... ah, this makes me so happy.

'Cause I need to watch that for the 50th time instead of all these other movies on my schedule...

Wow, that pic of Petra is yummy!!
And wow, the print of Trans-Europ-Express you have is much better than the one I saw. I better see the new print and rewatch it.
And I need to finish Loulou. I think I'd appreciate it more and be able to tolerate it more.

July 1 2009 "Official"

Since I began this movie thing I've been keeping track of an "official" top 100 every January and July. I'm so much less interested in this kind of list now, (having seen more films, and with so much time having past since I've seen some of my great favorites, this is a difficult and boring endeavor) but for my records I will keep it up. Not going to make a whole new list with pictures out of it though -- I much prefer what I've got in the top post.

So this is my best attempt at listing my 100 favorite films in descending order with no limitations and with no consideration other than "what does it mean to me?" My top ten hasn't really budged in years -- yes this is a very frustrating exercise. Still, I think I'll swap Opening Night for Minnie & Moskowitz, move a few things way up, kick some out completely, add some new lovelies:

1 Bringing Up Baby / 1938, Hawks
2 Last Year at Marienbad / 1961, Resnais
