Films I rated 9 or 10: Cannibal Holocaust, Paths of Glory, Det Sjunde Inseglet, Straw Dogs, Freaks, Touch of Evil, Night of the Living Dead, Nostalghia, Dawn of the Dead, Smultronstället, Angst, The Cook the Thief his Wife and Her Lover, Apocalypse Now! (I haven't seen the Redux, but I love the theatrical version) and Day of the Dead.

Other films on here that I like: Junfrukällan, 8 ½, Repulsion, Assault on Precinct 13, Stroszek, Umberto D and The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser.

Your list failed to disappoint me.

I'm dying to see:

Gycklarnas Afton (Sawdust and Tinsel, Bergman, 1953)
Rio Bravo (Hawks, 1959) -- heard some interesting things in a podcast a week or so ago, got me more interested in this than I would otherwise have been. I'll see it in a double-header with High Noon sometime soon, which I understand this was made in reaction to. Have you seen HN/what do you think of it?
En Passion (The Passion of Anna, Bergman, 1969)
Peeping Tom (Powell, 1960)

I'm really happy to see a shout out to:

Såsom i en spegel (Through a Glass Darkly, Bergman, 1961)
Umberto D (De Sica, 1952)
Nattvardsgästerna (Winter Light, Bergman, 1962)
The Cook the Thief his Wife and Her Lover (Greenaway, 1989)
Rouge (Kieslowski, 1994)
I Vitelloni (Fellini, 1953)
Only Angels Have Wings (Hawks, 1939)

Lots of great titles of course. Those spoke to me today. ;)

Thanks for your expressed reactions to my list. I'll answer you all eventually. I updated with some images (some days ago) and added a few films. These are not "absolute favorites", but "55 films I absolutely love". :D

EDIT: P.S. I work on a top 100-list.

Spectacular list Kiddo. You're pretty good at choosing images as well. Kudos!

I was completely overwhelmed by Peeping Tom. :D
You should check out C’est arrive près de chez vous, but it's difficult to say if you'd like it or not.

Thanks, my good man. I'll be changing the image from Stroszek as fast as I get hold to my dvd-version of the film (the image from Stroszek is the only one taken from another web-site)

Thanks for the comments, everybody!

Rio Bravo (Hawks, 1959)

Hmm, my score may look unenthusiastic, but I have a feeling on a second viewing I would fall for it entirely. On first look, I loved it more and more as it went on. So, my long-term goal is to watch or rewatch all of Hawks' "guy movies": this, Red River, and Only Angels Have wings certainly... any others you would recommend specifically?

Ah, thanks for dropping by! I'm glad you got to watch Rio Bravo, and glad to hear your plans... You know, the universe established and the characters "undressed" in the delicious Only Angels Have Wings got me more excited during the rewatch(es); inhaling all the unsaid things in Hawks' universe is the most fruitful pleasure in watching his films. The dialogue is funny and entertaining, but it's the indefinable things hiding behind the words that's interesting in a Hawks-film. That's why rewatched always breath life into ones dialogue with his films.

I don't think I'm the one to ask for recommendations, though, since I really haven't seen that many of his films... I can recommend Scarface though, which is a fantastic film. I'll have to see more before I'm able to really recommend anything "not-as-obvious"... Which I plan to., of course :D

The very good thing about this list is that I haven't seen most (7!) of these. I'm taking them as recommendations (thanks). They better be good, or else... (just kidding  ).

Sorry I haven't answered you before (I rarely visit this (these?) "User Forums")... Let me guess what you've seen:

Umberto D
Apocalypse Now
En Passion

Correct?

Ok, at least promise me to try to get hold to the Bergmans you haven't seen on that list. And you gotta see Jeder für sich und gott gegen alle! And Stroszek! Fuck, you gotta see everything you haven't seen on the list... Maybe except Day of the Dead. I don't think you would find that too great.

You should. This sid/te is much better than the other one. Sadly, people tend to delete their best contributions (whole forums even) as they please.

Correct. :D Though I've seen only the 'initial' Apocalypse Now (can't even say the 'original', Coppola showed the unfinished film at Cannes and won Golden Palm  ).
And oops, I miscounted, I've actually seen 4 of them (6 to go).

That's the one, I've seen it (excellent film). And I'm working on my 'missing parts', already snatched torrents for some 6 unseen Bergmans...

And Stroszek!

...and this one (plus Aguirre). :)
Alas it will take some time to see them (no free space on my PC, not enough time to watch them, etc.).

Well, I'll do my best. With a little luck I might even arrive to Kieslowski one fine day (Romero is way below on my 'wish list' though).
Thanks again for this list.
